Nevertheless, it did occur to me that most of the changes did little to move the needle on the plot or structure of the actual book and that, most likely, an uninitiated reader might find the added references confusing or irrelevant which would surely detract (if only mildly) from the pacing. Having read the novel’s initial version nearly two decades ago, my memories of it have blurred over time and thus this review is meant specifically for the modern release.Īs explained in a lengthy foreword, due to the vast amount of time between having written the first book and completing the seventh, final, book of the sequence, King felt that not only were there too many continuity errors requiring retconning, but that also his own ability as a writer had changed so significantly, that to properly complete his series he would need to revisit his previous work.Īs a devotee of the series who read on to completion, I found the revision to be an excellent piece of fan-service, weaving in references to later plot threads, adding to the world-building, creating better consistency of characterization, and of course, fixing some continuity issues. ![]() The Gunslinger, originally written by Stephen King from 1978 to 1982 then revised and re-released in 2003, is the first book in the ambitious Dark Tower series, King’s self described ‘magnum opus’. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Courting ruth emma miller![]() ![]() ![]() But as she delves deeper to clear Aaron's name, she discovers secrets that put her own life in danger. What they had was a short, intense, and secret affair that she treasured for the rest of her life. As the story goes, Paul stayed in the hotel for a short period of time before he heads to his son in Ecuador. Adrienne Willis a divorced woman (left by her husband for a younger woman) met a doctor Paul Flanner in the North Carolina coastal town of Rodanthe while she was attending her friend’s Inn for the weekend. The story is about two adults who met in the not-so-good state of their lives and eventually found love in each other. At first, I honestly don’t know if I will continue reading it. What I mean by that, is that it’s not the typical young people who fell in love with each other. Unlike any other novels that I read, Nights in Rodanthe’s main characters are two middle-aged people. Nights in Rodanthe is another bitter-sweet story from Nicholas Sparks – A romantic love story novel in September 2002. ![]() 5/23/2023 0 Comments Barbarian mine![]() ![]() I enjoyed her personality in particular out of the 4 books I've read so far. She doesn't waste energy with angst or begrudging her situation and instead keeps on keeping on. Harlow is incredibly capable and gifted at going with the flow. The women each have clear personalities I appreciate, too. The character relationships are not as shallow as they usually are for campy romance, so I'm consistently impressed by this. His relationships warm my heart, and I appreciate that all the characters have a large network intertwining them. I found his development of language and family extremely sweet. Although the "wild man snatching a woman away" trope is used a lot in this genre (even in this series twice already), and it is a terribly dull and sexist one, it is much sweeter in this book than I've seen before. This book is enjoyable for the first half while we watch Rouk and Harlow build their relationship. Though it is a standalone, the events of the previous 3 books are referenced a lot, so they require reading first. ![]() I actually stopped listening with only 8 minutes left because I couldn't force myself to listen to even one more minute. ![]() This story is longer than previous ones, or perhaps it only feels that way because it extends far beyond its natural end. ![]() Started fantastic, ended boring and intolerable ![]() |
